artist to watch: the pains of being pure at heart

Man, the low-fi, garage, and melodic shoegaze is so in right now! It’s everywhere it seems. New York’s The Pains of Being Pure at Heart blend the best elements of the wall of fuzz guitar with sugar pop undertones. We can hear influences from the likes of Ride, Jesus & Mary Chain, Black Tambourine, and My Bloody Valentine and akin to present day contemporaries, Asobi Seksu. They have a current tour going around and will be playing at SXSW. Their self-titled debut came out Tuesday under Slumberland. Beautiful stuff. Check it out.
