Dayve Hawk’s glorious Memory Tapes project is continuing full steam. This time he offers us two tracks. The first is a remake of “Graphics” off of his best of ‘09 Seek Magic LP and the second is “Easy Pert Mom”. Bump it.
wild beasts in juan’s basement
•November 3, 2009 • Leave a CommentLondon art-rockers Wild Beasts performed at P4k’s Juan’s Basement and here’s standout favorites “All The King’s Men”, “This Is Our Lot” and “We Still Got The Taste Dancin’ On Our Tongues” from the fantastic Two Dancers, out now on Domino.
the mary onettes
•November 1, 2009 • Leave a CommentThe Mary Onettes are Swedes that make some of the most fantastic/early-’80s/guitar driven/lush pop a la Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jesus and Mary Chain etc. I’ve heard in quite some time. Their new album Islands comes out this Tuesday, Nov. 3 via Labrador and adds a bunch of strings and keyboard arrangements to the mix. Check out the video and two mp3’s below. Happy gloomy November day.
new yeasayer : “ambling alp”!
•October 30, 2009 • Leave a CommentYeasayer have been hard at work in the studio and have finally announced the release of their sophomore LP. Odd Blood is due February 9, 2010 on Secretly Canadian. AND, here is the utterly fantastic first single “Ambling Alp” followed by a remix by the much-talked about Memory Tapes. You can also purchase a digital bundle along with the 12″ single and t-shirt bundle at their website here. This is easily going to get 50+ repeats by weekend’s end. Happy Halloween!

•October 26, 2009 • Leave a CommentReal Estate, the up and coming lo-fi outfit from New Jersey, are releasing their long awaited full length later next month. In the meantime, check out this excellent live clip of their recent CMJ gig last week. In case you have heard their handful of EP’s, you have even more of a reason to be excited for this full length because the same songs have been remixed, beautifully. Here’s the new album-version of “Fake Blues” for your listening pleasure.

phoenix^remixed
•October 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentPhoenix have sure been getting the remix love this year. And this shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the brilliance of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Thus, there will be a remix version of the album out digitally in the U.S. on Oct 13 and a 2CD set in the UK on Oct. 19. Some of my personal favorite picks are below followed by the tracklisting. Of note, the Soft Pack remix/cover of “Fences” is one fantastic hazy mess.

california wives’ no. 8 ep
•October 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentBlank Slate favorites California Wives return with their absolutely stellar No.8 EP. The Chicago natives continue their progression and serious studio time comes to life with this new release and does not disappoint. “Bibles and Wires” kicks things off with its infectious melody and synth track (think new order shimmery pop but even brighter) while “French Words” exhibits a new turn for CW with its down tempo groove and culminating build-up jam. Closer “True Blue” (and one of my personal favs) seals the deal and that synth whirr is perhaps one of the most welcome/striking sounds I’ve heard in quite some time. Download it for free right now here!
grizzly bring “foreground” to ‘cemetery gates’
•October 5, 2009 • Leave a CommentGrizzly Bear continue their live mean streak with their recent performance of the delicate and beautiful Veckatimest closer, “Foreground”, on the latest p4k ‘cemetery gates’ segment. See you from Boston Orpheum’s 5th row on Thursday!
fan vid: washed out: “feel it all around”
•September 24, 2009 • Leave a CommentHot stuff. Been listening to this guy for a while now and this fan-directed video matches this jam pretty much perfectly. South Carolina’s Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, makes some lo-fi hazy electronic pop and has an EP coming out Oct. 20th via Mexican Summer.
wild beasts
•September 23, 2009 • Leave a CommentLeeds art rockers Wild Beasts’ new LP Two Dancers is one fantastic affair. Second single “All the King’s Men” sounds like a hybrid between fellow London art rockers A Mountain of One with some Morrissey/Antony and the Johnsons-esque croonings. Follow that with the album’s arguably best track, “This Is Our Lot”, and you get an idea where Wild Beasts stand on this record. Two Dancers is out now via Domino, so go get it. Also, get a hold of their Daytrotter session here.
thom does “reckoner” solo
•September 22, 2009 • Leave a CommentThom Yorke recently performed a stunning solo version of In Rainbows favorite “Reckoner” for the Age of Stupid premiere. Head to the film’s site here for more info. And yea, global warming sucks.
the golden filter – “thunderbird”
•September 21, 2009 • Leave a CommentNYC dance floor bangers The Golden Filter return with a new 12″ single on Nov. 16 via Dummy. “Thunderbird” continues their synthetic disco ear candy and will get you yearning for Friday night’s dance floor all too soon on this Monday. Preorder it now, oh and the b-side is a cover of the White Stripes’ “Hardest Button to Button”.
the first days of spring
•September 21, 2009 • Leave a CommentNoah and the Whale is an indie/folk outfit from London who you might remember released their debut a couple years ago, Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down. Their newest LP, The First Days of Spring, is a much welcome improvement and a great deal more mature then their previous work. Take for example the lead, album self-titled track with its beautifully lush orchestration and their recent Black Cab Sessions below.
The First Days of Spring is already out in the UK and coming out in the US on Oct. 6 in both a regular edition and a CD/DVD version with a 45 minute film.
new thom yorke – “feeling pulled apart by horses”
•September 21, 2009 • Leave a CommentThom Yorke’s new 12″ single comes out this week and is currently being shipped out via W.A.S.T.E..
Both tracks are equally bleak, schizophrenic, and of course brilliant.
new air – “so light is her footfall”
•September 16, 2009 • Leave a CommentA new track from Air’s upcoming Love 2 has surfaced and unlike “Sing Sang Sung” this one finds them returning to some of their roots. Great groove, a sexy guitar riff, and the whispery vocals of Dunckel and Godin. Jam out and enjoy all the hotness.
